As 2008 draws to a close, I'm happy to say that after 2 days of locking myself in my office, my new blog and new website (a second site devoted to NEWBORNS only, my main website will still be active as well) are LIVE! They are imperfect and will get some tweaking in the weeks to come, but I'm just happy to have met my goal of having them live by Wednesday! And I can't lock myself in the office anymore this week so improvements will have to wait! So check them out, bookmark them, and never come here again, hee hee. Well unless you want to look up an old session I guess?

Changes are on the horizon!

So in keeping up with blogging at least once a week during my time off, I thought I'd write about some changes that are happening here at BabySnap this month and into 2009! First of all, this is one of the last posts you'll read on this here ol' blog! I've upgraded to a brand spankin' new, shiny, fresh, clean, fancy blog! It will house HUGE images, which I love most of all! As soon as I get it up and running, I'll post the new link and you guys can change the link in your blog readers!

Other exciting news: I will be launching a new website, nope it's not replacing the current BabySnap website, it will be *in addition* to it and will focus on a particular specialty. More details to come soon!

And lastly, I'll be bringing in the new year with some new pricing, new exciting products, and a new collection!

Don't forget, book your 2009 session now to lock in this year's prices and if you book a newborn session in the next 2 weeks, the session fee is 50% off!

I know I'm on vaca this month, but bffs still get squeezed in lol! I did my friend's maternity session just 2 weeks ago, 4 days later her Thanksgiving bundle arrived! Here are a few favs of sweet baby Delilah, born at almost 38 weeks, and joyfully didn't need the NICU like 2 of her older brothers. Congrats Rebekah and Josh, you know she's beautiful! :o)

I'm late doing a T-Day post but wanted to still say how incredibly thankful I am for all of the blessings in my life. I never take for granted all that I have, I'm thankful each day for how rich and fullfilling my life is. There are 6 reasons I am most thankful, 6 reasons I get out of bed on days when I'm tired, 6 reasons I work hard everyday, and look forward to each new experience. The first of the six is my amazing husband, I hit the jackpot when he fell in love with me, he's the most supportive husband and an incredible father. The other 5 changed me forever, are my full-time job, bring me so much joy, and are here in this snap:

Downtown maternity {Northern Virginia Maternity Photographer}

So I wrapped up my 2008 client calendar doing a maternity session for one of my BFFs in downtown Fredericksburg. She's over 37 weeks now and we had to wait this long for her to be round enough! We had a great time exploring and they are the perfect couple to venture out with; totally in love and alot of fun (i.e. crazy) LOL! Needless to say, there were no serious "kiss the belly" poses- just a lot of laughs! It's been ages since I did a session with friends, and it was the perfect way to end my last official work weekend (I still have her newborn session in Dec)! I can't wait to meet you Delilah!!

So BabySnap is booked now through the end of 2008 other than a possible "squeeze in" here or there (email me if you want to be squeezed). The last weekend session was filled tonight! Wow, it feels weird to type that. Yep, she's one now, and although I haven't edited any of the pictures I took from her bday or party, I have this one from today! This is a new "prop" I bought- I'm not really into props, but I loved this little ottoman. Also, the hat was knitted by the one and only... *me* lol, it's made with a super soft alpaca/wool yarn (I'm afraid I've developed a serious yarn addiction!). If anyone wants me to bring either of these (or any other hats/accessories you've seen in my images) to your session, just let me know! (I have quite a collection of newborn sized hats) :o)

My 2 1/2 year old, Kennedy has bad case of PCS (photographer's child syndrome) and either runs from me and my camera or gives me the fake plastic smiles! I'd been wanting to spend some time working for real smiles all summer and finally did today. I got her to laugh by saying silly things so these smiles are genuine silliness and happiness! She's such an amazing little girl, I just adore her!

I'm using my 2 weeks off (not really 2 weeks b/c one of my newborns came early) to catch up on a zillion things and as I was working on an order today I was enjoying the flakiness of newborn skin, which I absolutely love. It's one of the things that just melts my heart, I love the flaky skin, the umbilical stumps, the curliness of their little bodies, the jagged nails, the tiny hairs on their skin, it's all just amazing to me and defines "new" and "miracle and "blessing". Just look at that foot!

Felicity was 11 months old yesterday. I just don't know how this happened because I swear she was just born. I'm a little (ok alot) sad about this because this means that she'll be a year old next month, my last baby!

I just love and adore this baby girl, she's so sweet and so easy. She's a peanut, nothing like her sisters were, I'd be surprised if she weighs 15 lbs (we'll see at her 1 year appt) although she eats a ton! She also does not have a single tooth! The other kids started getting teeth at 6 months so this is so bizarre but I love it because I can pretend she's still a little baby all the better.

She is impossible to photograph these days as she's on the move constantly (started walking at 9 1/2 months) but I managed to get her attention for a few seconds this morning.

These are the babies of our house. I think I'll call them "the babies" forever. Seems silly to call Kennedy a baby in a way, she's 2 1/2, has full conversations, is potty trained, and can hold her own, but she'll still always be one of the babies. She has a special place in my heart for many reasons. Then there's Felicity, who is the "baby baby" (as we called her in the womb), the actual baby of the family being the last born and final addition.

They are 19 months apart and actually get along pretty well so far (not much jealousy), but it's still nearly impossible to get a picture of them together, so I had to share this!

Well I didn't do anything special for Felicity's 10 month pictures, in fact they were 2 days late and I didn't plan out clothes (obviously) or have any ideas. I just realized that day that I needed to document that fact that she completely stopped crawling on her 10 mo bday. She had been walking some throughout the month and then poof! she just started walking full-time. Everyone who sees her walk can't believe it because she's such a peanut! It always amazes me how much babies change in a couple of months. We did this little guy's newborn session when he was a month old and he was still sleepy and curly. I was lucky enough to spend my Sunday morning with this beautiful family. Little Mr. R was adorable and such a sweet guy. Being 3 years old, and like all 3 year olds, he had his mind on something and we weren't going to distract him. He wanted ALL of his pictures taken with his blue tie and cowboy hat. He seriously wanted them so genuinely bad that it was hard to not give in! We managed to distract him here and there, but he never forgot, and it still makes me chuckle right now. Thanks for being SO patient N and R, you're amazing parents! Here's a few to hold you over!

So Friday night, as I organized my maternity clothes to sell at our semi-annual community yard sale, I felt mixed emotions. Excited in a way, because we are on the road to a different phase. Goodbye to the sleepless nights, hello to family game nights, big-kid activities, to me getting more "me time", to read a book, expand my business, find myself.

However, I'm also sad, because all I ever wanted was to be a mom, and although I'll always be a mom now, it's the end of my "child-bearing" years and that's bittersweet. I love being pregnant, love meeting that new person for the first time, wondering what she will look like, how he will fit in to our family, smelling that perfect smell... what an amazing journey it has been!

I hope my maternity clothes (I LOVED my summer stuff lol!) are worn with the same excitement, joy, and anticipation that I wore them with!

Every quarter another local photographer, Willow (who is an AMAZING high school senior photographer btw! Check her out!) hosts a get-together for area photographers. She finds somewhere for us to shoot and then provides an incredible dinner! This time it was a hawaiian plate lunch, soooooo goood! Oh yeah, and the session locations were amazing too! ;-) Here's a few of our models who baked in the heat for our benefit!

I spent my morning with the "K" family, newly a family of 3! There's just something magical about witnessing the amazing love that new parents have for their baby; I love being a part of that! This little guy was just (yes I have to use the infamous word for irresitible babes) so smushy! I enjoyed all of the awake moments too! Thanks for having me over S & J!

This little guy was amazingly laid back for a one month old! He didn't even give me a hard time with much stretching or fussing and was easily wooed into doing what we asked. Congrats L & B, on the birth of your handsome little guy!

(well an adult without a baby!) Last week I went to a conference given by Sandy Puc and got to spend some quality time with some other local (and not so local) photographers. I learned alot, from the seminar and the other photographers, and had a fun time just hanging out too. We were early and had to kill some time so of course we found an old house falling apart to photograph but had no subjects... hence WE became the subjects! Here's one of gorgeous Beth, thanks for letting me post it! ;-)

I just love having newborn sessions with previous maternity session clients. We already have rapport and I just really enjoy spending more time with them and seeing them as parents to their new arrival. 10 day old baby girl "A" was so easy to work with and so sweet, I could barely decide which images to post today! Congratulations D & R on your new family of three!

Today I put Felicity down for her morning nap and came downstairs to find that 2-year-old Kennedy had gone out back and was up on the swing, "mommy!!! push me!!!". I gave her a big push and ran to get the camera of course. She's such a carefree, curious, happy little girl, I love spending my days watching her explore her world...

Changes on the horizon...

I've been in the mood for some change and with summer approaching, I'm thinking it's a good time to jump on it! My talented friend is coming up with a new logo for me, my original "logo" (i.e. overused fonts) was thrown together when I first created my website, very blah! We're shooting for something clean and fresh and simple, can't wait!

I'm also changing my colors to something more fresh and fun! Of course the BabySnap pink will remain in the theme (just maybe tweaked a tad).

All of this is leading up to the biggest change of all, which will be an entirely new website! This wont be up and running for quite some time as I cannot seem to figure out exactly what I want, but I hope to decide and begin working on it soon, with my goal of going live by the end of the summer!

My Ally turned 7 in January and I've been wanting to take her out and get some recent pictures of her for months. She's such a big girl now, so sweet and smart! Here she is, being such a good sport despite her horrible allergies acting up!

As many of you know, my "little" brother Aaron is also a photographer, he's amazing and full of incredible ideas! He could have a raging business if he so desired! Anyhow, he and I could probably spend a week cruising out all over VA shooting everything we see, but alas he and my SIL Susanne are only here from CA for 4 days. We've still had fun playing with his equipment and my many subjects! Here's a few fun ones he's taken of our visit so far!

My dear friend's baby boy was born at 28 weeks gestation. He's having a very hard time right now and the future is uncertain. I want so bad to physically be there for my friend, but the distance of many states separates us. I made this for baby F, as I can't just sit here and do nothing, and I hope that maybe it can snuggle him in the NICU and surround him with the hope and love that I'm sending with it.

I was priveledged enough to spend yesterday with 6 other VA photographers! We went to historic downtown Fredericksburg and the Rappahanock river with our patient models (a few of our kids)! Thanks to W and her husband for their hospitality and an amazing dinner at the end of the day!
